چکیده
A stable mu-nitrido diiron phthalocyanine activates H2O2 to oxidize CH4 in water at 25-60 degrees C to methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid as evidenced using 13C and 18O labelling.

N-bridged diiron tetra-tert-butylphthalocyanine activates H(2)O(2) to form anionic hydroperoxo complex [(Pc)Fe(IV)=N-Fe(III)(Pc)-OOH](-) prone to heterolytic cleavage of O-O bond with the release of OH(-) and formation of neutral diiron oxo phthalocyanine cation radical complex, PcFe(IV)=N-Fe(IV)(Pc(+)˙)=O. ESI-MS data showed stability of the Fe-N-Fe binuclear structure upon formation of this s...

The MIT Faculty has made this article openly available. Please share how this access benefits you. Your story matters. This tutorial review describes recent progress in modeling the active sites of carboxylate-rich non-heme diiron enzymes that activate dioxygen to carry out several key reactions in nature. The chemistry of soluble methane monooxygenase, which cata-lyzes the selective oxidation ...
متن کاملDiiron Oxidation State Control of Substrate Access to the Active Site of Soluble Methane Monooxygenase Mediated by the Regulatory Component
The regulatory component (MMOB) of soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO) has a unique N-terminal tail not found in regulatory proteins of other bacterial multicomponent monooxygenases. This N-terminal tail is indispensable for proper function, yet its solution structure and role in catalysis remain elusive. Here, by using double electron-electron resonance (DEER) spectroscopy, we show that the o...
متن کاملStabilisation of l-peroxido-bridged Fe(III) intermediates with non-symmetric bidentate N-donor ligands†
Prominent examples of non-haem diiron enzymes that activate dioxygen in their metabolism include soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO), which hydroxylates methane, the R2 subunit of ribonucleotide reductase (RNR R2), which generates a tyrosyl radical and fatty acid desaturases (D9D). In these systems dioxygen activation involves peroxidodiiron(III) intermediates with characteristic ligand to met...
متن کاملCarboxylate as the protonation site in (Peroxo)diiron(III) model complexes of soluble methane monooxygenase and related diiron proteins.
Addition of H(+) to a synthetic (mu-1,2-peroxo)diiron(III) model complex results in protonation of a carboxylate rather than the peroxo ligand. This conclusion is based on spectroscopic evidence from UV-vis, (57)Fe Mossbauer, resonance Raman, infrared, and (1)H/(19)F NMR studies. These results suggest a similar role for protons in the dioxygen activation reactions in soluble methane monooxygena...
